Welcome to 2012

First of all, FHS coaching and administration staff would like to wish all our members a Happy and prosperous New Year.

With the Olympics this year in London ... you didn't know? ! ... we are expecting a large increase in interest in sports across the board this year. We have restarted our sessions now - so we look forward to seeing you all back in the training sessions again.

There are loads of things happening that are not the Olympics this year - the first of which will be the requirements of swimming training kit for all swimmers.  From Sunday 22nd  January we will be offering a limited number of kits at a discounted price of £15, these will include a pair of flippers, a small float and a pull buoy in a mesh bag.  Due to the limited number, these will be offered on a first come first serve basis.  All swimmers will be required to have the full kit no later than the 12th February as sessions utilising the kit will start week commencing 13th February.  Any swimmers without the necessary equipment will be unable to participate fully in these sessions.

We are also discussing with Fusion Lifestyle ways in which we can work together more efficiently in order to increase pool time and provide better facilities to club members. This includes getting the long awaited timing sessions organised and some special focussed workshops in addition to the clubs normal activities. These workshops will cover things such as stroke technique master-classes, diving practises etc.

Local children’s swimming club raises £2000 for Children in Need

After waiting for the Gazette to print the article regarding the efforts made for Children in Need, they have managed to get it very wrong.  This is in fact the article that was submitted.

Forward Hillingdon swimming squad had a wonderfully successful evening last week when they turned their usually Friday night training session into a sponsored swim to raise money for Children in Need. ‘The idea for the sponsored swim came from two of the children themselves. We thought that it was such a great idea that we asked the whole club if they wanted to take part,’ said Charlotte Lee, one of the club’s coaches. Charlotte went on to say, ‘The enthusiasm that the children showed was amazing and we’re so proud of what they all achieved.’

A total of 30 people joined in the swim, including the Head Coach, Iain Henderson. Iain and the coaches were incredibly impressed with the children’s performances, with five of the children swimming an amazing 2 miles in just one hour. Over the rest of the club 11 children swam 1 ½ miles or more and all of them reached the 1 mile target, with the exception of two of the younger children who battled through injuries to take part in the event. The youngest children swimming were just 7 years old and some of them only joined the club this term. They all did wonderfully well with both their swimming and the huge amount of money they raised.

All of the swimmers and helpers were rewarded after their hard work with delicious home-made cakes produced by two of the mums.

Forward Hillingdon squad would like to thank everyone at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex for being so very helpful and supportive during their sponsored swim.
